PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Mountain Tunnel supplies water to San Fransisco from the mountain range east of the city. Along the tunnel, new bulkhead doors were needed to access the tunnel. They have to hold back hundreds of thousand pounds of water. The challenge was creating steel welded connections which consumed months of welding time and deposited thousands of pounds of weld wire. Heat introduced from welding could warp and distort the doors and their frames if not properly addressed. Cody provided engineering and calculations to minimize the distortion and make the work possible. Our 5 man Quality Control team supervised the work on a daily basis ensuring each of the hundreds of connections passed rigorous Ultrasonic or X Ray inspection. These doors pushed our team to its limits by challenging every part of our company: Detailing, engineering, welding, inspection, painting, and shipping.
